  I personally do not use zooms for portrait work. Most my stuff is shot on a 20 mm, 28 mm and a 50 mm (www.scottchoucino.com) on an old 5D. So maybe you would benefit from a 30 mm 1.4 (about 50 mm in real money) by Sigma or an 85 mm 1.8 by canon (works out as a 135 mm)? As you already have the standard focal length zoom for a crop sensor. What do you feel you can't do with your current lenses?
