Does anyone know where I can get MDF of custom dimensions? (Building a 3D printer) I'm trying to build the extremely cheap Cherry 3D printer. It's basically a printer you can partly 3d print and partly build with cheap components. Anyways, it requests that I obtain MDF/particle board of specific dimensions. Problem is, I don't have the tools to make decent cuts myself. If I go to, say, Home Depot, would they be able to cut it to size for me?
I realize this is only barely the right place to post this, sorry.

You can get [Ponoko](http://www.ponoko.com/) to laser cut it for you. The MDF is pretty cheap -- if you get the melamine-finished MDF, it'll be more resilient to liquids and dirt. Looks nicer too. A 790.0 x 384.0 mm sheet is $11 plus laser time. I haven't gotten MDF cut by them, myself, so I don't know how pricey the laser time would be (I usually use them for acrylic or delrin).
Can you hire a 3D printer???? Do you know who/where I could ask? I'm looking for someone who would like to 3D print a design for me. Just a prototype for now but it could lead to more. TIA!

Ponoko.com and Makerspace has two! They are separate from Hackerspace.
So, i am looking for recommendations or suggestions on where to start with Laser engraving for wood and plastic. Specifically recommendations on a good starter machine. help :(

A friend of mine recently recommend this company ponoko.com
Can anyone here recommend a local rapid prototyping company? Or has anyone used these guys: http://www.axisproto.com/? Thanks.

It depends on whether you need basic or more sophisticated 3D printing. Locally I know that http://robocutstudio.com/ has a basic Type A 3D printer (the kind that just spits plastic filament out of an extruder). Robotcuts really specializes in CNC milling, though. For the fancier SLA, SLS stuff, http://www.shapeways.com/ is a good bet, and can do a wide variety of materials, including metal. http://www.ponoko.com/ can also be good, but I think they still only 3D print in plastic.
Looking to pay for the cutting of an aluminum face-plate for a custom stereo I'm building for myself It's in the design phase right now, but I'm putting together a Raspberry Pi powered Wi-Fi stereo that'll have a case inspired by vintage stereo receivers, with the wood cover & brushed aluminum faceplate.
For the faceplate, I'm hoping to find somebody who I could send my CAD file to and have it cut out of something in the range of 3/16th" aluminum plate.
The simple cutout would be plenty, but as an added bonus I would also consider having labels etched onto the surface, if the cutter were to make that service available.
EDIT: Ideally hoping to find somebody here who might happen to have access to the tools or work somewhere that does! Would love to pay you personally.
Or if you know of any good service or resource that would take one-off orders like this, I am all ears! Thanks a lot guys
I'm looking for a local source to make 4- 2" square accent pieces for a display case. Thanks.
Hi Steve, I would suggest Lightwave Laser in Santa Rosa: http://www.lightwavelaser.com/ or Ponoko in Emeryville. They offer a palette of materials that they cut by laser or CNC router. http://www.ponoko.com/ Brian Schmitt
