  I have some updated information re: tours of the fabulously huge and kinda creepy Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, MO. Prison Tour Coordinator Sheila Sanford sent me this follow up email today - take a look below. Too bad it is so far away, because this would be an awesome group excursion. Doug and I plan to get later this summer/fall. Good morning, Karen – earlier this year you had contacted us about a Photography Tour at Missouri State Penitentiary. We are now taking reservations for tours after May 1. You had indicated you were interested in a 3-Hr Photo Tour – the cost is $37.50/person (minimum 2 required or pay for two), you should try to get this scheduled as quickly as possible, as we will start posting public tours on our schedule in the next week or so, once we have posted public tours you would need to work around them. We can start the tours as early in the morning as you would like – it doesn’t get daylight until around 7:00 a.m. here. Sunday mornings are also an option. If you can get back in touch with me in the next week we can probably guarantee you the date and time you want.   Who do I contact to get a tour of the Old State Prison in JC? (retired State Trooper) Anyone know? Going to be in JC for a few days next week, first time in years! Doubt it has changed much though. :)

  Unfortunately, John, MSP has been temporarily closed for tours due to mold growth. As you can learn from the following link by clicking on "tours", the problem is being resolved, and tours will resume in '14, but I doubt before you come. If I were a retired trooper, I'd call some friends--even a locked door gets opened if you know the guy who knows the guy with the key... :-) http://www.missouripentours.com/
