GOOD makeup schools in the Eastern Ma area that won't break the bank?
Help?

1. No cosmetology school will teach makeup. They have a 1-3 day class on it and move on. Waste of money. 2. An aesthetics license is better if you'd like to get a licensed. They too will only teach very minor makeup lessons. If you want to work at a spa would be the only reason to go those 2 routes. 3. A makeup school isn't always the best route to go if you'd like to freelance, BUT if you choose to go the best schools are in NY. If you can't do NY I recommend David Nicholas international in MA. You'll graduate with a portfolio. 4. You have to choose an avenue and then educate yourself from there: a)do you want to be a retail makeup artist? They don't need education, the brands and stores educate you but you have to let them know you're also interested in sales! That's they key in retail, you're there to sale products. B) do you want to be a spa makeup artist? You also have to be an esthetician, so get and aesthetics license. C) do you want to freelance in commercial & editorial? You don't need an education, you need a mentor, solid business skills, practice and time! I picked up books and practiced every chance I got then I charged MORE than MAC and Sephora to be able to survive and make it my career. You can't compete with the stores with pricing you have to charge more. D) do you want to work on film,TV, commercials and productions? Go to a school that will train you on HD technique and Special FX techniques in addition to beauty. Theses skills are needed because you'll want to join the union *** ALL of these avenues are VERY different. 5) if you want to work for yourself you NEED to learn business skills in additional to makeup application or it'll be your hobby and not your career.
