  Does legal aid do divorce? Or do you know any reasonable divorce lawyers who do free consults? Pretty odd situation.... We have been separated for 4 years. He isn't a Canadian resident. He lives in a different country, running from an arrest warrant he has here for domestic abuse. We have a child, who he hasn't seen in 4 years. I am a single parent, he has never given me a cent... clearly I can't afford a lawyer. I would like to be divorced eventually. Is there any chance for me of having legal aid help me do this? Or will I have to save up to pay? Which isn't happening in the near future... providing for my son is much more important

  The Lawyer Referral Service will give you referrals to three lawyers. You can talk to them about your options. $30 for 30 minutes. Toll free from anywhere in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Lower Mainland British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. 1-800-661-1095

After being advised of the nature of your problem, or the area of law concerned, the Lawyer Referral Operator will give the names and telephone numbers of three lawyers practising in the applicable field of law.
