  Oh that doesn't sound good. My husband found a good website something like www.fixya.co.uk or www.fixit.co.uk and you could email them explaining your problem and they would come back with a possible solution to the problem and then from that you cold google or you tube who to fix the problem. I wouldn't have thought of doing that either, we were just skint and so husband decided to give it a go.....since then he's gone on to achieve all sorts including tightening a hand brake on a car.....there really is a world of information out there!!!
