Hers a question for all my mechanically inclined friends. We have a 2011 Mitsubishi Endeavor. Our tires are getting chewed up here in Belize by the dirt roads. I wanted to get larger tires with more tread but they won't fit in the wheel wells. So the local mechanic, (he has a large shop and has always taken good care of us) has suggested that we get 16" rims (we currently have 18" rims) and go to a 10 ply tire from the current 4 ply. The new tires would be narrower but taller with more rubber tread. He did warn us that because the tires are heavier, our gas mileage would be lower, which with gas in Belize at US$6.00 gal. is an issue. But replacing our tires once a year is also a big cost. High initial cost replacing all 5 tires (includes the spare of course) but the new tires are about US 100 to $125 less than the tires we are now using. OK Brainiacs, what do you recommend?
