At Blue Oak Veterinary Clinic, we offer a number of services. We encourage our clients and their pets to ask any questions that they may have to help them take better care of their pets and or understand their needs in order to better care for their furry family members.
Animals are a vital part of our social circle. Animals experience many of the same medical conditions, of people. Each animal species and each individual animal within that species has a unique manifestation of physical wellness and illness.
"My role as a veterinarian is to support people in maintaining the health of those animals who are dependent upon them. At Blue Oak Veterinary Hospital, my staff and myself work together to make this happen. We are extremely hands on and form a unique bond with our patients and the owners. After all, this union is one of family, and we respect that as well as encourage it." - Mary Allen DVM
Dr. Mary Allen has owned Blue Oak Veterinary Hospital for the last three years and has totally enjoyed building a relationship with all of her patients and their owners. The experience continues to be rewarding and fulfilling on every level. Dr. Mary has always had a connection with animals, big and small.
She started out quite young, with her mother taking her to the San Diego Zoo. That was her earliest influence. Her parents started taking her hiking in the Sierra's and she fell in love with the entire area. Some of her favorite animals that she took quite an interest in were Horn toads, Road Runners, Cats, and Tad poles. Quite a combination!
Lisa Thompson, was a person whom introduced Mary to wildlife study, and was another great influence for Mary in the animal field. After high school, Mary continued her studies to become a Veterinarian graduating from U.C. Davis. Before that she worked with Bonnie Bergen... show more
learning to teach dogs to work with people with disabilities. She developed a training program with Canine Companions for Independence.
Mary then moved here to Amador County and purchased Foothill Veterinary Clinic and started her path to become Blue Oak Veterinary Hospital where she is now in Jackson, California.

I have been in touch with Deb and a veterinary hospital that is working w/me but we are not getting anywhere with Jojo. I live in marin and I am wondering which vet you all use? I am willing to...
I use Foothill Veterinary in Jackson. 209-223-3131. I have never consulted with her for something so complicated, but you might want to give it a try, she seems knowledgable and likes rats. It is around $20 for a rat/exotic exam. Her business is very busy, however. I don't know if you could get through to her right away, but I think she would probably call you back if you put in a message or wanted to consult with her before deciding to make a trip (less than two hours). Tell her Zach (tall, bald guy) with the rats referred you. Her practice is literally on the corner of hwys 49 and 88 in Jackson. Zach
