My dilemma: I do not have an MFA. I feel like such an amateur compared to those who do, especially in VONA. I am 34 years old, and have spent the last decade and a half training in medical school and residency to be a pediatrician and humanitarian aid worker. I love writing, but feel stunted and delayed compared to other amazing VONA mentors and can't see myself making the jump from amateur to "wow" any time soon. I feel too old to go the MFA route, especially after so many years in school already (not to mention DEBT,) but too young to put down writing altogether because it makes me happy and I want voices like mine to be heard. Feeling a bit lost and stuck at the same time... Advice/suggestions welcome.
