  [Urgent] Can anyone recommend a virtual dog trainer for behavior modification? My son was born 4 days ago and our three dogs have been doing great with him. Unfortunately my German shepherd tends to be a bit hyper and nervous around my husband, and my husband is now afraid that she’s going to knock him over while he’s walking around with our son in his arms. My husband wants to rehome the shepherd for the safety of our son, saying that we won’t have time to train her out of it, but since there are no other issues (shepherd is very sweet otherwise), he’s agreed to look at possible solutions first. Because of COVID, we can only do virtual training. Can anyone recommend one who does virtual behavior modification? TIA

  Hi, Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for a family with a 20 month old pup and increasingly active baby? Our dog loves our baby, but gets way too excited when she's on the floor (tries to lick her face, drops toys by her head). So far we are trying to teach him to respect her personal space and to interact with the baby when we give him permission (rewarding good interactions with treats). We aren't making a lot of progress and she'll be crawling soon enough. Any tips or recommendations for trainers (preferably ones who can come to our home) would be great! Thanks in advance!

  Hello- I have a 6yr old fearful dog. I noticed all of information about different training styles. And clicker and treats. So yelling or shouting at her is big no no (can't get my extended family to not shout at her ) when she growls or bares teeth what corretion should I use and then all them to do instead? Also they constantly tell her its okay when she is afraid... So I think it rewards her fear behavior. She fear bites and I have a 7 month old who is mobile and I need o get her better.

  The dog and baby need to be keep safe. Management first and foremost. The dog requires a certain amount of space to feel safe, make sure he has it ALL THE TIME. Relying on punishing the behavior that scares you and indicates the dog is uncomfortable is not going to be the best long term solution. You need a trainer who can show you how we use positive reinforcement to train behaviors we want and counterconditioning to change how a dog feels about things. You don't need a clicker to do it. There are trainers who specialize in helping people work with dogs and children familypaws.com has resources. In the meantime do not put your dog into situations in which the baby has access to him, there's no quick fix for this. We can't force a dog to feel safe with anything. Don't keep putting the dog into situations in which people feel they need to yell at the dog.
