Tucked away in one of the backs streets of Kings Cross, this is one of those restaurants that local recommend reluctantly - because we don't want to be crowded out by tourists and fad followers. This is the real deal, both in terms of being an old-style Kings Cross Restaurant and an authentic Italian eatery. The food is robust and plentiful but with little gourmet touches to delight the most jaded palate. The decor is warm and Bohemian, with Italian movie posters and retro art covering the walls. The tables are tucked into nooks and crannies with crayons to draw - there is also the outside covered courtyard. The clientele varies from families early in the evening to musicians, artists and showbiz personalities later at night (it's open till 3 am). After 11 you'll see staff from other restaurants as well as entertainers having their post-gig meals. (Caffe Roma is also a favourite retreat for the 'entrepreneurs' of the Cross). If you live in or are visiting Kings Cross and you're looking for a good, genuine Italian meal, in a warm and friendly atmosphere, at reasonable prices, this is the place. Talking of prices - there are two for each item on the menu - pre-midnight and post-midnight. And there's a very, very good wine list Buon Appetito.
