wass41 replied:Lots of places on freecampsites.net that are quite and free. I used the one outside of Rangley Maine on route 16 before and it was nice and quiet. Kilkenny Loop in Milan should be quite as well. Jefferson notch road is a good one. There’s plenty of them if you go far enough in the woods. Most of the tourists crowds stay at the classic and popular locations. Edit: noticed you want to be loud not quiet. Most campsites are loud drinking fests these days. I wouldn’t worry much about it. Tripoli road, or just any campground near the Saco.

I've always been a backpacker and tent person but now with little kids the camper has been great, especially in shoulder season. We are respectful, never use a generator, and adhere strictly to LNT. In the Rockies there are tons of places (cheap and free) to use a camper. We prefer off-grid / dispersed / boondock campsites to established resort style "campgrounds" such as KOAs. I was curious if anyone might want to recommend some good areas for us to camp in (without giving up their favorite spots, of course). Or maybe we should just sell it as the East generally is not as suitable for a tow-behind camper. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

In other places I've lived they have options for camping along forest service roads and such. So basically you drive a ways down a dirt or gravel road and pull off somewhere and camp. Does anyone know any places like this in PA. I was thinking the Poconos would be really nice this time of year but anywhere you suggest is fine really. I know you can backpack camp in pretty much all the state parks (or is it the national parks?) but I don't have much backpacking gear so it it's a lot nicer to be able to have the car for stuff. Next best option is primitive camping where the campsite is pretty close to the parking area, so if you know something like that, let me know as well. Alright thanks for the ideas hopefully.

After about a quarter of a mile the road turns to dirt/gravel. You have about 6 miles to the rim, where you can just pull off the road in any of the clearings and camp - no charge. You don't want to drive it from the rim down into Sedona - it's 4WD only and just keeps getting worse every year. A couple of years ago, I drove out to the rim. On my way I passed a heard of elk. That's not including round trip from Maryland and back which in and of itself is a whole other hurdle... I was wondering what other options are available for a girl that only makes minimum wage. I am even willing to sleep in a tent. My plan was to take a round trip train out there so I can pack my own food and then use lyft or uber for transportation. The only issue is finding somewhere to stay that won't be breaking my budget and won't have a huge ordeal about my service dog (pictured for attention) Any information about cheap campgrounds/air bnbs in the area would be absolutely fantastic. I will only be staying for a few days, but if I can make it happen I would like to stay longer and check out the beauties of california....the furthest west I have been is Missouri so I would really love the chance to explore the beautiful country. Generally there's camping in those areas. Check out freecampsites.net. Look at satellite images for small clearings near dirt roads on BLM land. I'd start the ride early to avoid afternoon storms. We're having a decent monsoon season this year. If possible try to be below tree line by 1 pm or so.

Look up hostels or nonprofits and ask if they would provide housing in exchange for volunteer work. I specifically remember one in Homestead (south of Miami, right before highway 1 leads you straight to the keys) that gave volunteers a cheaper rate

Unfortunately they are not interchangeable and its a 50/50 as to which awesome site requires which pass! This year we got Washington Discover pass, its much more inclusive for nearly all amazing destinations and only $30 for a whole year and covers up to 2 vehicles. Even allows access to free camping at many sites! The website freecampsites.net shows which are free with discover pass with blue tent icons on the map!
