What's a good place (1-2 hours driving outside of Charlottesville) to visit for a weekend getaway? I'm looking to surprise my sister and her husband with paid weekend away from their kids. I would like to book a hotel/B&B/resort for 1-2 nights in an area that has something they could do together (e.g. hiking, biking, antique shopping, etc...). They used to live in DC and Newport News, so I'd like to find a place somewhere west of Charlottesville where they haven't been.
Something quaint, romantic, and relaxing is ideal. I'd like to keep it 1-2 hours away so that they're not too far from home, but it still is a get-away weekend. Any suggestions are welcomed! Thank you!
PS: I may be posting soon on what to do with my nieces and nephew in Charlottesville while my sister/brother-in-law are away - I will be the one who will take care of them!

Second recommendation for the [Inn at Riverbend](http://www.innatriverbend.com/). My wife and I went there when she finished her cancer treatment, and it was perfect. So peaceful. Great view. Nice rooms. In addition to what ccw9 p said, there's also a fantastic restaurant, the [Palisades](http://thepalisadesrestaurant.com) that's kind of in the middle of nowhere not too far away. There are different owners now than when we went, so I can't comment on the breakfast. If you're feeling extra generous you can get them an in-room massage.

This is a little bit outside your range, at about 2 hours and 45 minutes, but my fiance and I stayed at the Inn at Riverbend in Giles and it was so supremely peaceful and perfect. Ridiculous views from the big open porch out back, hammocks available, awesome breakfast included, and the Cascades hike right nearby. Can't recommend it enough!
