  Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I create fingerprint jewellery and generally take the prints direct or using an inkless kit but I would like to try taking a mould. I have used siligum but when taking the reverse mould it just does not give enough detail. I know there are other moulding products out there but which is the best or what can you recommend for taking prints and getting a good result??? Thanks in advance. Jenny xx

  Metalclay.co.uk sells a Japanese silicon that is supposed to be much better. It is quite pricey but if it works it's got to be worth it. That's what I'm going to get as the other stuff I bought (the little travel packs) just doesn't get enough of the print.

  Tell courses at London jewellery school responsive. Go onto amazon get a book on metal clay from natalie column this lady is great at metal clay also do one of her courses. Watch you tune videos your learn loads. This way is better.

  Hi Victoria, here is a link to a presentation I did on UV resin back in 2007 - whilst old, all the information is still correct. :) http://www.metalclay.co.uk/content/UV%20Resin%20Presentation.pdf We have all the products you need on www.metalclay.co.uk, including UV resin, colours, and things like inkless papers and wipes, and photopolymer plates, so you can make your own stamps from the prints.   How exciting Jane Staples :) 9 g isnt much at all but you could easily make two small pendants from that. If you in the UK Cooksongold.com have a good variety of clay and fairly well priced (be sure to click the button which includes the VAT so you can compare). I also use metalclay.co.uk and if you are able to sign up for wholesale you get a very good discount but there is a £150 minimum spend. You can also look on ebay but im always a bit cautious about that.

  I use metalclays4 you.co.uk for my silver clay - best price I've found and has free delivery too. Copper I get from metalclay.co.uk as it's the stuff you can torch fire, but you need to spend £30 for free delivery. Every penny counts if you're making them for selling :)

  Be very careful if you use base metal clays like copper or bronze. The firing is not as foolproof as silver and you need to ensure you keep your tools either scrupulously clean or have two sets to avoid cross-contamination. Metalclay.co.uk is great for silver clay pricing. Cookson gold is good too. If you keep your pieces small you can get more out of your clay.

  Me too. I've polished till my fingers bled many times, and then just had to carry on :( I bought a rubber block from metalclay.co.uk which helps a little, just having it a little higher. You can also use it to grip the piece and polish on top, it's not perfect, but it can give your fingers a rest for a few minutes.
