Brandie R. replied:We have a border collie mutt mix and over the years have used multiple different groomers. He's getting up there in age & the past 2 years he'd been panting A LOT - even in the winter! Whenever we've taken him to a groomer, they always shaved him. We didn't know any better, we just thought it would be cooler for him in the summer heat. This last time however, we used Gordon's Grooming - and apparently because of the type of coat he has, shaving him only makes it WORSE because it makes the undercoat grow in thicker and get matted against his skin (under his outer coat). When we picked up our dog he was about 10 lbs lighter, but looked almost the same except trimmed up nicely! He was NOT shaved, but you could feel the difference in his hair, and quite literally see the relief in his eyes. He felt SO much better and he stopped panting all the time! Gordon is very knowledgeable and very good at what he does. Also, our dog is very fearful and skittsh, especially with men and strangers, but he was different with Gordon immediately. We were VERY surprised at how quickly Tank just took to him and walks right up to him! He doesn't even go up to my dad like that! I honestly can't say enough about how pleased all of us are - including Tank. Also, he had to wash Tank BEFORE AND AFTER he groomed him, so I expected a much higher bill.
