I am needing recommendations for an advocate to help my daughter who is on the spectrum get the things needed at school. IEP is out of compliance, I am pulling her from her class until it is a safe environment.

I went to enroll my son to school he should be starting pre-k. They did not want to enroll him because the lady just said "he doesn't look ready" no kid is ready to enter school. He has ADHD he takes his medicine. Any school in Houston where any one can recommend me?
They also told me would be distracting other children
Would a private or public school be better?

Me: Does the school provide tutoring or remediation for dyslexia?
Admin: The teachers do in the class.
Me: So there are teachers who have Orton Gillingham training in the classroom?
Admin: No.
Me: Specialists who come to the classroom?
Admin: No.
Me: Do you have any professionals trained in Orton Gillingham who work with dyslexic children at the school?
Admin: No.
If one in five children were wheelchair-bound or blind or deaf and they didn't make accommodations there would be an uproar.

This is a good place to go before an IEP meeting. http://www.understood.org/.../iep-boot-camp-getting-ready...?

I researched this topic a year or so ago. I also suggest visiting www.Understood.org. You can set up a learning profile for a student for customized suggestions.
Does anyone know of someone who can make the Autism diagnosis in Florence, SC? Money is tight and don't have the funds currently to drive to charleston. my 4 year old missed the diagnosis by 1 point when he was 3. Time to get him checked again...

Another online resource I've found helpful is Understood. www.Understood.org. You can create a profile of your child for customized info. Site also offers advocacy suggestions. Since your child is receiving speech, I presume he has an IEP.
