I'm seeking suggestions for nice restaurants in the Greenwich area (within 20-30 minutes) for lunch or dinner for my mother's 80th birthday. Probably a small group of six. Any thoughts?

All excellent recommendations ... but, if you want to really, really give her something on a world-class level, in the best location (on the water) in Greenwich, it's l'escale. Not cheap. But, it's her 80 th, so what does money mean? Here's the website: http://lescalerestaurant.com/

love L'escale but not sure if its the best venue for an 80 th
Sherman K. replied:
Well, the formal, classical decor at l'escale ... the 4-star food ... the impeccable, mature service ... the harbor at night, right outside the windows ... I actually was thinking it was perfect for an 80 th. It's a very adult setting, class on top of c lass. If Restaurant Jean-Louis was still open, I would have suggested there, but otherwise, I can't think of a more appropriate setting for an 80 th birthday dinner, in Greenwich or anywhere else.
Sherman K. replied:
Yes, La Cremailliere would be a perfect choice, world famous ... also famous for having a scene from "Love Story" shot there. I suggested L'escale in Greenwich earlier, but certainly La Cremailliere is a top choice for such a special birthday. Too bad Resataurant Jean-Louis recently closed, it was considered in the top ten restaurants on Earth, and right off Greenwich Ave.
