  Well sometimes clients just throw around words like Web 2.0, HTML5, etc without knowing what it means. I think if they can list down their requirements for the website, a web designer/developer can determine what they need based on that.   I'm doing SEO too, partnering with a freelance team. Haven't done it for our own corporate site yet, just launched new redesign, work still in progress. Our first project was for gregsvideo.com. These guys were pretty much invisible on Google up till D ecember 2010 but now, if you search for "video production" or "wedding video production", they're on page 1. I'm pretty impressed with my SEO team so far. Next project will be for my own site http://pixaworks.com.my once we have completed the portfolio section :-p
