About us
Big East Akita Rescue, Inc. (BEAR) is an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to giving a second chance to Akitas in the North East who have been abandoned, turned into animal shelters, or are no longer wanted by their families.
We are dedicated to saving the Akita, a breed of dog endowed with loyalty, devotion, intelligence and honor.
We look for permanent loving homes for our dogs.
We will work with families to help keep their Akita in their home, providing resources and one on one support.
We are committed to helping as many dogs as we financially can.
We will work to educate potential owners and the public about the Akita breed with a goal of reducing the number of abandoned, abused, neglected, or unwanted Akitas.
Any suggestions for a reasonably priced local large breed dog trainer? Experienced in training Akita's a must. Thanks for any suggestions.

Suggest you get in contact with JoAnn Dimon of Big East Akita Rescue in Tom's River, she's the go-to person for Akita's in the mid-Atlantic region and she works with local shelters regularly in the Philadelphia area. They do a lot of evaluation, some training, and I think there's a specific person in Philadelphia associated with the ACC that specializes in Akitas.
