All the talk about blood donation and shortage has me curious about something: My husband has a disorder called Hemochromatosis, his body stores too much iron and as a result has to have regular phlebotomy (blood letting) appointments to lower his iron level. The only thing wrong with this blood is that it is high in iron, and it is disposed of like nuclear waste. Are there any health professionals who know why this might be, as opposed to putting it in the blood bank?
