She also gets discomforts/pain when flexing aside from the "click". We are new comers so, not sure if we should first go to a Family Doctor (we don't have one) or we can go directly to an Orthopedic doctor (is that the one?). Any recommendations on where to start?
GeriatricJunky replied:Side note: call the family doctor finder, 204-786-7111 and find a doctor. A family doctor can set up a referral to an ortho from there if surgery is necessary.

Family Practitioners can be the appropriate doctor for many families from cradle to grave so to speak. I don't know how their training differs from the old "general practione r" designation but they do specialize in Family Practice as their Residency. As far as the debate of Family or Pediatrician, your child will really dictate what is required. My 3 oldest kids were followed by our excellent FP but when one of my youngest became critically ill at 7 months of age and required a Pediatrician to admit to Children's Hospital (not to panic anyone - if you have a FP and your child needs to be admitted, they will be put under a House Ped until/if you get your own Ped), we transferred all of the kids to the Pediatrician for ease of care. We use Dr. Natalie Schur, excellent but she is far out on Main Street (so def. need vehicle unless you want a long bus ride). Dr. Connor I can attest to being awesome also, great with kids BUT what I didn't like was that he is part of a big practice and when he isn't on, you can end up with a partner you don't really care for.....This is the number for "Familiy Doctor Finder" which is a service to help you find a FP, Nurse Practitioner or Pediatrician. This IS the fastest, most efficient way of getting a doctor in Winnipeg. When doctors are accepting new patients, priority is given to patients who are registered with this program. (Because it is a provinc ially mandated program). Also, in most cases, children can be seen by a general practitioner and do not require a pediatrician. This would avoid having to find your child a general practitioner when they turn 18.
