  6 hour drive from Chicago Looking for a good place to go camping and hiking around with my brother in mid-April that is within a 6 hour drive of Chicago. We will have 3 days in total. Somewhere warmer (so South) where we can hang out, go hiking, enjoy down time, maybe go to a natural spring or lake. Looking for specific suggestions of campgrounds or hikes rather than the general advice of a national forest.

  Hi Seth! This is another Seth. I do a portion of the Devil’s Lake segment once to twice a year. I start on the East Bluff, make my way to Parfrey’s Glen and head back. That’s an overall 15 to 16 miles. It’s a good days hike. Should you choose to do that, then I strongly encourage you to reserve a camping site at the state park ASAP. It fills quickly for the summer months. Should you want to extend your hike further than that, take a look at the Ice Age National Scenic Trail website. It has a ton of knowledgeable information. People in these areas can you give me thoughts and feedback on: 1.) The best moderate to highly technical trail systems within those places 2.) Great camp sites 3.)   I agree with Natasha Steenbergen, Devil's Lake is cool. WI has some great State Parks. Also check out Ice Age Trail in WI http://www.iceagetrail.org. such a cool trip, depending on dates if you need some local crew/transportation PM and I would be willing to help :)

  Coming through Wisconsin spend some time on the Ice Age Trail and also hit the trails around Devils Lake.

  Looking for remote camping/backpacking suggestions. Hi all! I just moved here from Oregon and am looking to get out in the great outdoors for a few days. I'm looking to be as close to MKE as possible(within a few hours) but at the same time experience the greatest amount of solitude. Backpacking recommendations or primitive camping spots would be great. Just not looking to camp at a campground with the RV crowd. THX!
