I am not a DX'er, don't care about trying to trying to talk to someone halfway around the world on minimal power, just want to be able to click and talk, to my neighbor, to family/friends up to 500 miles away, and work with emergency comms. Still a rookie, and I have done a few small projects with antenna masts, and power distribution, but I not into crystals and tubes( i know a lot of people are, respected), for now just want to turn on, (tune), and talk...   Yaesu 450-D. Covers HF and 6 m and has an auto-tuner. After rebate, $650 at hamradio.com. Can't get simpler than that.
