Need some advice: we have recently had some work done on the house (new deck, painted the house, etc.), and now it is time to do the "final walkthrough" with our contractor. I have a few concerns regarding the work, but I don't know if they are reasonable or not, because I don't know anything about how to properly paint a house or build a deck. For example, we feel that the seams in our siding are much more apparent than they were before the painting of the house; we expected that they would be less visible. When questioned, our contractor seems to have an explanation for why that is, but we can't help but continue to be concerned that the job may have been rushed due to the recent rains. We researched our choice of contractor, so we are confident it is a good firm, but my question is, once it comes time to write the check, how do I know if the contractor has done quality work or not? Are there inspectors or someone I can hire to give me a good, unbiased assessment of the work?
