  Long time lurker, first time posting,,, I am looking for recommendations. I am hauling my horses from Eastern Wa. To AZ the last week on Nov this year. I am hoping to find good lay over spots for my girls to get out of the trailer and rest each night. I am towing my FQL and prefer to camp with my girls. I will be taking I-5 all the way down California into Western Az. Can you good people recommend any great horse hostels/hotels? I will need to lay over somewhere around the Salem Oregon area the first night, and then a full day's drive south of there. And probably another night somewhere in Central to So Cal? If you have done this haul before, how long did it take you and where did you stop? I also have camp pens for my girls if needed. Friendly tips would be appreciated. I love my girls and don't want to make them endure another crappy Spokane winter, so they are totally snow birding with me from now on

  I would go down to the Tri Cities, I-84 south to I-15 all the way to Arizona, when you get to Kingman AZ then you can choose to keep going to Flagstaff then I-17 South, or 93 south to Wickenberg and on to the rest of AZ. Check horsemotel.com or horsetrip.com most of the fairgounds in Idaho and Utah have overnight stays.

  We also snowbird( from NE Oregon) with our horses and if I were you I would go down to tri-cities also catch I-84 and then go south from Twin Falls, ID, thru Wells on down thru Vegas and south. You can either go east at Vegas or South down towards Yuma. Check out the maps. Also be sure and get your health certificates and coggins. We have never been checked going down but do coming home. But we still get our paper work done just to be on the safe side. You can over night in LaGrande, OR, Filer, ID(at fairgrounds), Wells, NV. Like Lyman said check out horsemotel.com and horsetrip.com. I see you will be traveling a lot later then we do, so have chains handy. Problem with I-5 in winter if they do get snow you don't want to be on the roads. On the east side folks tend to do better driving in the snow, at least we can hope they will. Safe travels.

Its a pretty long drive, about 12 hours (and that's without hauling horses). So to break it up they are needing a place to stay over night with my horse, preferably in Kentucky or even southern Indiana. Does anyone have a favorite place they like to stay with their horse while travelling through these two states. Would like to stay near I65. Thank you all for any information!

  In July I will be moving to Durango, Colorado from Savannah, GA. I will be hauling my 2 horses in my slant load trailer. It is semi open and the horses will have air flow. I plan on routing I-16 (ATL) to I-20 (Birmingham) to I-22 (Memphis) to I-40 (Albuquerque) and then 550N. Anyone know of quality horse hotels on this route? I plan to go slowly but with my 11 year old daughter in the car, 2 dogs and a cat I need to be REALLY prepared. Any wise tips appreciated!

  I used horsemotel.com for my trip from Virginia to Wyoming last summer. It has a nice map feature that I was able to use in planning selected stop-overs. Everything was set up ahead of time so that I knew how far I had to drive each day. FYI - July is local fair season, so you can't rely on fairgrounds being available, so be sure to call ahead of time. Another site of interest that I might use for my trip this summer is horsetrip.com. It has contacts that differ from the horsemotel site. Good luck, and safe travels!

  Ok, so I need your advice. We will be taking our first longish trip - 2 1/2 weeks- next summer with our 2 horses from N. California near Sacramento to above Portland, Oregon, and then to mid Oregon and then back down thru N. California. We intend to break the trip up driving, and drive maybe 200 miles a day until we reach our Oregon destinations at LLStubbs Park and then some parks in central and eastern Oregon. We will be going up the I-5 interstate. Does anyone have any recommendations of places to stay? We will be in a 3-horse LQ trailer, but would like to find places along the way we can have a stall or corral for each horse. If there are trails nearby, that would be a bonus, and might allow us to stay 2 nights to have a day of rest... Also, how do we plan for the horse's food? We will have them on a pelleted complete feed (my horse is going to miss his hay!), but do you find feed stores along the way or try to lug the full mount we will need... Any advice is appreciated, as this is new to us... But, we are excited!

  Going to endurance rides-I usually plan on going around 350 miles a day. Portland's rush hour starts at 2PM. Check out horsemotel.com , horsetrip.com sites for places to stay along the I-5. Before I leave home I look up places where I can stay overnight with my rig if there is problems along the way.
