  Just a note on chain from India. The metal isn't the best grade used... Bought some Aluminium chain from Allbest as a cheap source of extra rings, and the rings could be bent by hand. By which I mean, without needing pliers. Compare that to the Alumin ium rings from Armchair Armoury ( http://www.armchair-armoury.co.uk/ ), which are about as strong as most of the steel rings from India. With a suit of Aluminium (made from Armchair Armoury's aluminium rings), and a two suits of steel (one from heavy gauge square section washers, the other from bought pre-made from http://www.getdressedforbattle.co.uk/ ) in the house, I'd lay money on the stories of Aluminium suits of chain falling apart being cheap stuff from India, as the suit made with the Armchair Armoury rings hasn't lost a single ring in 4-5 years of heavy use. tl;dr you get what you pay for...
