  Wait I think I misunderstood! If you are wanting global recommendations, try http://www.ecoteer.com/ they have some nice "genuine" volunteering programmes (ie not big companies trying to rip off gap year students!) eg the Volunteer Ecoteer: Wildlife Rescue Centre one. If your friend has experience with primates then Jane Goodall Institute would be another good one (http://www.janegoodall.org/volunteer)
