A lady who runs a business in Worthing (who isn't that familiar with websites and marketing) just called me to ask some advice about her website. I had a quick look at it and gave her a few ideas and suggestions as to how she could improve the site.
She mentioned that she'd phoned another web development business (I know who but I won't shame them here) and the guy there was rude to her, unhelpful and basically sounded like he wouldn't even blink without being paid!
Even if the guy was really busy, taking 5 minutes out to offer help to local business is beneficial to everyone. She's calling me next week after she's thought through the things I chatted to her about. Whether she does or doesn't isn't really a big deal as she may now recommend me to other businesses and she hasn't left the phone conversation feeling like no-one local can help her. No wonder local businesses are struggling when some of them can't even be arsed to help each other out!
It appears that in some businesses manners don't cost nothing!
Rant over.
