Hi SC Community. We've just adopted a 7 mth old pup that's got a history of abuse. He is extremely timid, cowers, hides, is scared and startled by noises and even the kiddies running. We are working on building trust and love at the moment with lots of soft pats, gentle reassurance and voices, and rewards for coming... that's if we can get him to come to us. Just getting him to know that he is safe and loved. Once we have built that I will look to get him into training, but I want to work with someone who has experience with abused dogs. I can't emphasis enough this needs to be a speciality because this is not your average dog and we think by his behaviour that he has been beaten in the past and yelled at so we want the perfect trainer. Any advice? We are south in the coast.
