  Amy, you may want to contact the Krewe of Barkus & Meoux. http://animalkrewe.org They have an emergency fund that you may qualify for. Personally, I would try to avoid going to the emergency vet here if at all possible. Check with Dr. Seale at Broadmoor Animal Hospital in Shreveport.
