  Does anyone know of a type of decal that can be placed on doors or windows in homes and businesses to designate a "safe place" for children to go if they need to get away from these "stranger danger" situations? If not, can we create them?

  We were in State College, PA, for a couple months for my husband's sabbatical, we saw "Safe Place" stickers around on *businesses* throughout town. I looked it up, but I'm not sure this is exactly what you have in mind. It was part of a national organization http://nationalsafeplace.org/ . They work with businesses and organizations to provide safe places and resources for youth in need. It could be something for local groups to look into.

  This could be a great idea but regulating who had them would be nearly impossible after a while. For example say I get a safe place sticker for my house issued by the police after a background was conducted and then I move and sell my house and forget to the remove sticker. Now who ever bought my house has it and so on and so on.

  Who is to say what is a safe place ? Just because a person passes a police background check doesn't mean it's a safe police for a child to go. As a police detective that's worked over 500 child sexual abuse investigations I can tell you there are plenty of people sitting in prison right now that everyone thought was safe. None of them had prior criminal history or if they did it was for relatively minor offenses. I like the idea and I like the concept , however, implementation would be difficult and what's the liability on the municipality? Just throwing this out there for thought and discussion.

  I would like to see some more attention paid to the kids of Greenfield, particularly the ones that paying the price of their parents mistakes. There is a new movement called 'Safe Place' http://nationalsafeplace.org/ that outlines how to create a safe space for kids to go, and give them options to the streets or a less than safe home environment. If we can offer these kids an opportunity to make better decisions at a crucial point in their life, that would be money well spent. Just my humble opinion. Kids need a place to formulate and follow a dream. For me, that safe place was the old youth center on Washington street. Staff there were like therapist mentors for the kids. I dont know what I would have done had it not been for that place.
