  There is a consignment shop in Portland that usually has lots of appliances including washers & dryers... I got a front loading dryer with all the bells & whistles for $225 there. I've had it about 6 months now & it's still working great. I think they give a 30 day warranty from the date of pickup. If you aren't dead-set on a new set, this is definitely a good option I think. It's called Portland consignment shop & it's near the car wash on the North end of town. There are two buildings actually, one behind the car wash & one right across the street. The one behind the car wash is where the majority of the large items are. Good luck!
