  Gold plating is expensive though because the process is even more toxic than usual (most other processes now manage to avoid cyanide). Also few platers, outside jewellery, handle gold and so you've moved from the "door handles and candlesticks" market into jewellery.

  Plating especially gold plating large parts requires big tanks of nasty chemicals (Gold as mentioned needs cyanide) and lots of power so I suspect most LARP manufacturers if asked to do this will just contract a plater to do the work for them and add a premium, but it's your choice ;-)
