  Does anyone have any information about early Swellendam? My paternal grandmother was born there c.1879 and her father was an itinerant builder in the area. The family came originally from Lismore, Ireland?

  Something interesting on Swellendam: http://www.overberg.co.za/index2.php?option=com_content... Remember though, that the entire district declared independence, not only the town. On a map that basically means the entire Western Cape east of Sir Lowry's Pass all the way up to Gamtoos

  Hi Hazel If you are interested in the history of the area there are a couple of books you should look out for written by Edmund Burrows. They have a lot of info on early Swellandam. One I have is called Overberg Outspan and I think the other is Overberg Odessy
