  I've heard Interrail passes are really easy to use but haven't myself. I can fully recommend Busabout. They'll have limited services in September but might be worth a look as it's a nice mix between independent travelling and a bit of a safety net if u need it.   Have you looked at busabout.com? I highly recommend as a hop on, hop off bus tour, cheaper than planes & trains but you decide how long you spend in each city. Plus the other travellers tend to be friendly & independent too.
