I'm going for my first meeting with a Voc Rehab counselor in Oakland on the 13th. I'm hoping they can help me get into an Plumbers apprenticeship. Any suggestions?

I'm still studying the manual from disabledveterans.org but I found this passage: page 0654 (1 st paragraph) - "...a. Paid On-the-Job Training (OJT) or Apprenticeship OJT or apprenticeship may be approved at a variety of locations as long as the employer meets the criteria specified in 38 CFR 21.290 through 21.296. This includes private employers, non-profits, federal agencies, state agencies, or other local or public agencies. " It sounds to me like I can take that to mean that my VRC may be able to help me get an apprenticeship job with "...private employers, non-profits, federal agencies, state agencies, or other local or public agencies. " Does that sound right?

If you are closer to Sacto than Oakland, then you may want to consider the Sacto VR&E. Do you have post 9/11 benefits? Depending on what you may have, talk to your VRC about the possibility of receiving some BAH benefits instead of the stipend amount. Download Ben Krause 's M28R at http://www.disabledveterans.org/.../140718-M28R-Updated... so if you have questions and we give references, you can look the section up.
