  I just paid $100 to rescue a maltese born 10-10-2013 who had been kept in a cage with her mother and a half brother from another litter. The breeder stated that she never interacted/talked to the dogs so they did not understand if you talked to her. I got the last one, a girl, has not had any vaccinations. Do I get her the State mandated or what? I don't know of any good Vet's in my area that believe in checking titers so I am at a loss as to who to even take her to for a check up.   Dear Cathryn: Hi ! Thank you for rescuing this little one. If she’s had no vaccines at all , she really needs 2 doses of distemper + parvo virus vaccine (e.g. Nobivac DPV Puppy) given 3-4 weeks apart, and then at least three weeks later, her first rabies vaccine ---as mandated by law. This should be with the only thimerosol (mercury) –free rabies vaccine = Merial IMRAB TF-1. To find a holistic veterinarian in your area to help here, please look at www.ahvma.org under “Find A Holistic Veterinarian”. Then once loaded, scroll down the right hand side for members in TX.   Dr. Dodds, my son lives in Sacramento and has a female Doberman, who has suddenly developed a reluctance to climb stairs and doesn’t want to walk much. She is about 8 yrs. old and is very good physical condition otherwise. At an initial visit to his local vet he was told it might be a vertebrae issue and that he should get X-rays for her. The dog is very active and this is unusual for her and my son is quite concerned. Do you know of a homeopathic vet in the Sacramento area, who possibly also does acupuncture?
