  Forest schools? I really like the idea of the "walderkindergarten" and spending time she would have spent in a traditional classroom outside instead. The problem is that there aren't any forest schools/preschools in my area. Does anyone send their kid to a forest school? Or does anyone do any forest-school type curriculum themselves? Can anyone recommend some good reading? (I found some books on Amazon but they're like $30.)

  I've found a couple preschools that ensure they have outside time *every day* for their kids, regardless of the weather. They aren't advertised as forest schools, but it was a start. One was advertised as Waldorf, another run through our local Nature Center (my son was at one last year). But I'd start be writing a forest school and asking for resource recommendations.
