I've been lurking around for a while but never asked a question. Here goes. We are planning for a Bat Mitzvah that is 6 months from now. We are not fancy, extravagant people, nor do we have money to throw around due to job loss. I decided to rent out the Social Hall at the JCC and have the party there shortly after the kiddush because kids can walk there from the synagogue and because there are a few family members who will not make it through an evening affair (health reasons). Not serving a lot of food because people will have just eaten. But trying to figure out how to get simple items such as a dessert table plus fruit and maybe a veggie platter, served and attended to and who can set up decorations, table tend cards, etc. I'd do it myself, but I'll be otherwise occupied immediately prior! Any recommendations on a planner or helper or caterer willing to do something that will not be a huge moneymaker for them? I want it to be nice but not look or seem cheap. (And already, by having the party in the afternoon rather than evening and refusing to take out a second mortgage to make this happen, I know many parents of my daughter's likely invitees are going to think we're being cheap.)
