  I would also suggest upgrading your acoustic treatment before spending on new monitors if you don't already use 703 rock wool traps (that foam just doesn't work for low frequencies). Even the most expensive monitors are going to sound like shit if they're shoved up against the wall in a small, square room http://realtraps.com/art_room-setup.htm

I have a pair of Artist 5 and are very happy with them, but I like to have more depth/base in the sound. (I produce Hip Hop and RnB-music.) Now, my question is, should I get a subwoofer to my Artist 5's or should I simply upgrade my Artist 5's to A7X? Right now I'm leaning towards getting a sub, which subwoofer do you recommend to my Artist 5? I'm choosing between the Artist sub or the sub 8. Do you have any thoughts/experience/tips about this?   I totally agree with Michel Krens and do not agree with Hunter (had this discussion in an earlier). it all depends on the shape of your room what and how you will eventually hear your mixes. unless the desk of Hunter is completely acoustically measured out and treated (not only below the a7 x and subs), there will be no desk-reflections, otherwise they will be there. I started with the A7 x and added one sub7 (especially designed to work together with the a7), the sub7 will not be on the floor or in a corner but about 3 feet behind me and 3 feet above floorlevel. once my studiosuite is finished I post some pictures. I'm in the middle of building things up. when measuring up your room for bad freqs and proper treatment surf on internet and search for room-modes. I like to refer to bobgolds.com and realtraps.com. surfing is free, buying the wrong subs is real bad. if you have a mac use the fuzzmeasure app to measure out your room. good luck !
