Does anyone know if there are Music For Young Children (MYC) teachers in Lacombe? Looking into beginner piano lessons for an eight year old, I had heard good things about that program. Or other recommendations perhaps...?
Lavon T. replied:
Angela I HIGHLY recommend MYC. Because we are moving I am not teaching this year in Lacombe. Check with Michelle Sautner for starters. She's the only one in Lacombe right now. There are several in Red Deer if you want to check there. myc.com for more teacher info.
Hello,
I have two children aged 5 and 8 that are really interested in drawing. The 5 year old is already asking for lessons. I was wondering if any of you ladies, know someone who teaches kids from their home or can come to my home once a week to give drawing lesson. I am not looking for a professional artist but someone who can draw and knows how to teach kids. I am also looking for piano lessons for my 8 year old. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Amanda F. replied:
Thanks Candace Reykdal! I do teach piano lesson to kids this age, but my program starts in the fall. Unfortunatley I am not taking private students at this time. But if you are interested in an AMAZING program that teaches WHOLE music education, check us out! www,MYC.com or www.RedDeerMYC.ca Good luck in your search Yalda!
Hello Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can recommend where to go for music lessons for kids. I was hoping to find something that provides an introduction to different instruments (not say just piano or just guitar lessons). Thanks!
Craig C. replied:
http://www.myc.com. They have teachers all over the country with at least one in Riverside South. They teach the fundamental of notes, rhythm, keyboard, etc. All my kids have been through it.
Does anyone know where I can get singing lessons and piano lessons for my daughter around the area?
Mary C. replied:
http://www.myc.com/ There doesn't seem to be a teacher in Cornwall - it's a little hard for teachers to get enough children to make a group situation. And I have had some students come to me from this program and to be honest, they are not that much further ahead than those that start piano at 6 or 7 years of age. Mostly, success in learning any instrument comes from having a parent that insists on regular practice and does not over schedule their child so that they have time to practice every day. I do take 5 year olds and I have taught 4 year olds... but 6 or 7 year olds tend to do a bit better unless the 4 or 5 year old is exceptional - which sometimes does happen.
Who can I contact to put my daughter in piano lessons?
Grace G. replied:
Susan' number is 204-687-7479; she is unavailable for spring break, though. She offers a music program for children, called Music for Young Children ( myc.com), and it is fantastic. There is also the option of private lessons. She is a phenomenal teacher.
Sharon Finstad with the Music for Young Children Program. www.myc.comteachersharonmyc@yahoo.ca She's amazing! But you might have to wait until September to get in.
West End Music School - does anyone have experience with them? I have a 5yo and 8yo I would like to get engaged with piano lessons. Thoughts, experiences other recommendations?
Thanks inadvance!

I find myself giggling as I'm searching for FCS teachers and faculty. Have you ever noticed that our yearbooks and class pictures never listed the teachers' first names? Only Miss, Mrs. or Mr. were used. This is getting interesting. If anyone knows Mrs. Morrison's or Mr. Mimm's first names, help a girl out and send me a clue. :)

Does anyone know of any really good preschool music teachers on the peninsula? I'd like to get private lessons for Kent in either piano or drums or preferably both from the same teacher :)
Jenna M. replied:

Amy M. replied:
Stef, look for MYC! It is the best preschool music program there is! Not only is it fun, but at 2.5 yrs old the kids also start learning basic theory. The link above will help you find a teacher in your area.
Looking for a piano teacher and also a piano tuner in the Harriston area. Any locals have ideas? Lindsay Hogg, Christy Claus, April Welsh, Brooke Bartley, Kelly Louise, Veronica Ron?
April W. replied:

April W. replied:
Yeah, Laura is the local MYC instructor. As far as I know the class she's offering now involves 15 minutes a day practice time, which I wasn't willing to commit Julia to yet, knowing her personality wink emoticon
I'm looking for piano lessons for my 8 year old.... Has to be less than $100/month, which is what we are currently paying for 1/2 hour a week. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated
Joanna S. replied:
$100/month for half hour is very pricey! You could try an music for young children(MYC) teacher , www.myc.com and use your postal code to find nearby teachers/ The cost for MYC is around $65 a month plus materials. Even if you don't decide to do The MYC curriculum most fo the teachers take private students also so it's a great way to find a qualified teacher who is good with kids.
Looking for piano lessons for an almost 4 year old in North Kildonan. Suggestions?

What is reasonable pricing for piano lessons in winnipeg? Recommendations in West part of Winnipeg, Charleswood, St.James, Westwood????
Joanna S. replied:
You can expect a monthly fee of around $60 for private or group lessons at a home studio. Some teachers with higher qualifications will charge much more but usually they prefer to take students who are more experienced already. I have my oldest in Music For Young Children (I teach the program in Westwood but only the pre keyboard program right now as we just moved here). There is another teacher in westwood and one in charleswood, you can find there info on myc.com. Also for private teachers I would not be afraid to ask about qualifications and usually the different examine boards will have a list of teachers in the area. I taught private voice and piano in SK for 9 years and no one ever asked me what qualifications I had?!? Always worth asking to make sure you are getting your money's worth
Joanna S. replied:
MYC tecahers set their own fee so another teacher may charge a little less or a little more but it's usually around $60 a month for 9 months
