  7 Bridges to Recovery is still taking volunteers for Thanksgiving. You can either meet at 10 am to help deliver lunches to the homeless on the streets or you can bring a dish to the pot-luck dinner at the women's shelter at 3:00. No need to rsvp.   Atlanta (and surrounding area) friends who volunteer in their communities. Anyone volunteering at homeless shelters over the holidays? I'm looking for recommendations for a possible long-term project I'm working on. Lots more volunteering questions to come, but I'd love some leads on homeless shelters you think do an amazing job of reaching out to families who need assistance, etc. Or possibly food kitchens, etc. Thoughts?

  The Garden – Local homeless shelter located off Atlanta Road on Plant Atkinson Road. Houses up to 100 homeless women and children. Volunteers needed to deliver excess food from WNL. Delivery can be done Wednesday evening or Thursday morning. Numerous needs are listed here: Needs List: • We really need some cleaning supplies right now: vacuum cleaner, mops, dish detergent, laundry detergent, carpet fresh, air freshener, bleach, glass cleaner, Lysol, Fabuloso, etc. • Notebooks and journals and highlighters • 50 gallon trash bags, sandwich bags, and t-shirt bags • Kitchen needs: cornstarch, beef/chicken/veggie stock, peeled garlic cloves, parsley, onions, lemon pepper seasoning, evaporated milk, Parmesan cheese, salad dressings • Towels and dish rags • Hygiene items: travel size for streets and regular size for Garden/men • 28 foot box truck with lift gate, bus, 15 passenger van • Fax Machine: currently we have a fax/printer/copier and everything else works but the fax part of it. The three-in-one would be ideal but we would be grateful for just the fax too! • Monetary gifts and gas cards (Donations can be made online through PayPal http://www.7 bridgestorecovery.org/ or mailed to the address below.   Meldrena Chapin contact www.7 bridgestorecovery.org/ This is the ministry in Atlanta that we have been involved with... They house children/mothers as well as go out everyday and feed the homeless... Most of the the people who work there were once homeless themselves... Truly an amazing group!!
