  Whoa - put the pitch forks and torches away....my husband built the car wash for our friend, Charlie Bell. American Pride is owned by Charlie Bell and the corporate office is on Six Forks at the Forum. They also have some American Pride offices on Wind Chime Court in Raleigh. If you spoke to the office manager, her name is Janet. You obviously were getting information from an employee and not a decision maker. Also, I don't know of a man that can lift a 500 pound drum - so there is no logic whatsoever in that statement. Call the main office, talk to Janet, and get an application in via corporate. Moral of the story? Go to the main source ALWAYS before jumping on the bandwagon.

  So the employee just called me (guess he is calling all Murray's in WF)and started talking about some misunderstanding and he did not tell my daughter that American Pride didn't hire women. That's when I cut him off and said I had no idea what he was talking about and my 32 year old daughter has a great job and is not looking for one. He quickly apologized and said he must have dialed the wrong #. I came across this post about 15 minutes after that call....how ironic!! Now I understand since this original post was made by Elizabeth Murray.

  I'd recommend due diligence before engaging a lawyer. Did you speak with a manager? Or the manager's manager? With something this outrageous, you'll typically find it's the result of one individual's incompetence, not an actual company policy. My guess is that if you escalate this with American pride, you'll encounter a supervisor who is absolutely humiliated by the response you got and very eager to make it up to you.
