  Hello Vokra group My two cats chiku and Bebo were adopted from Vokra almost 2 years back. Things were going great with your lovely cats not until last month our female cat went through terrible ordeal. She was diagnosed with asthma and almost has 17pounds of weight. Chiku male sibling is 15p. We were feeding dry vet food which was high in carbs to our indoor (condo) cats. After researching we found that we have to start feeding raw canned food to our cats. Are there any suggestions what should we give? Please let me know. My wife and me are doing everything possible to get our babies back on track with their health so any feedback or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks

  For obligate carnivores (cats) raw is best. If you can't do raw, then grain-free wet food is next best. Buy the best quality food you can afford. Read the labels. Weruva makes a really good wet food, from human grade ingredients, and it doesn't look li ke cat food! My really picky cats love this brand. It does take a bit of time to switch from dry to wet food.   Well, of course cats are carnivores I'm not saying they aren't but unless your supplimenting raw meat with vitamins and minerals in drug form then they're not gonna get the full nutrition they need. I highly reccommend a high quality wet food, I feed D onald blue bufallo brands but like I said it's 70% water content so the protein isn't too harsh on their kidneys, which cats usually die of at old age anyway. For dogs it's the liver that is the number one cause of death in old age. that's why a reduced protein diet is reccommended by bets in cats with kidney disease so it prolongs to health of the kidneys and liver by lowering the workload they have. This is what Donald was on and his liver his liver has REGENERATED itself. No liver problems anymore in recent bloodwork. As for diabetes, we have stabilized diabetes in both cats and dogs with veterinary diebetic formulas that have been created through scientific research. Of course, most pets need the insulin, but the insulin dosage greatly reduces when the pet is put on w/d, m/d or diabetic food. Of course, cats are carnivores, the ancestrial diet is meat blah blah blah...we all know how crappy domestic cats do healthwise in the wild so I'm not believing this whole 'grain free, protein high, ancestrial cat nutrition' that's sold without multiple clinical studies done to make the formula. All they do is good marketing against other companies that are different and because of that they do well. I've seen cats come in with blocked bladders the size of melons because they can't pee and cats that have kidneys full of stones. Guess what diet they were on all their life? grain free blue bufallo, Acana, etc. Guess what keeps them healthy and problem free now? Urinary So and K/d get formulas. Soo, in the long run it's up to you. Take my personal experience that I've had with Donald and my 21 year old cat Lulu who lived 4 extra years with inoperational kidney stones by just being on k/d dry and wet food (she used to be on fancy feast), plus by 3.5 years working as a vet assistant or...look at the website listed above that has minimal scientific fact and could be created by anyone around the world.
