But I have a large inventory of photographs in digital format many of which would make great platinum, cyanotype or other process images. The trouble is, I find myself increasingly confused by the process of producing an adequate digital negative. Is it really as difficult and involved as it seems to be? There are many contradictory processes published in books and online. I'm about to give it up for lack of a well-defined process. Can anyone help point me to a simple, effective process for producing digital negs OR is there a vendor who will take a digital file and print a negative for me? Thanks so much!

  you are all making it sound like it is rocket science. There are a few really good resources out there. Go to alternativephotography.com and read, google and read, get a few digital negative books and read, and get some supplies and experiment. Dan Burkholder's Digital negative book is good, Mark Nelson's book is great, there is a load of information out there on the web. Get a hold of a Christopher James text... Even if someone hands you the "perfect" blue print for their way of making digital negs, you still have to adjust it for your printer, the process you want to print and your own chemistry AS well as your light source. more doing and less talking. And post results.
