  Suspect cracked head, quite common and have seen Mercedes's, vws pass and my own 306 dturbo a sniff test as the sniff test relies on picking up exhauste gasses and or the gasses being strong enough the fail a sniff. If it's cracked on a inlet port the exhaust gas will be virtually non existent despite egr valve allowing them to the inlet side. Someone at sonepoint will have to bite the bullet and get the head crack tested. Some garages can charge the inlet manifold with air which may show it up (which I can't do). May also be worth carrying out a compression test which I can. Www.Facebook.com/stroudmechanic
