About us
Karen Smith has owned and directed Wise Dance Center from 1985 to present day. She has a BFA with a major in ballet from Texas Christian University. She is a former dancer with the Fort Worth Ballet, under the direction of Fernando Schaffenburg and is also a former dancer with the Fort Worth Opera.
Prior to opening her own studio in Wise County, Karen taught at Schaffenburg's Ballet Academy for six tears and taught summer dance classes at Texas Christian University, and has been a guest teacher/choreographer at several studios in the metroplex as well as in Pennsylvania.
She recently studied technique classes at the Alvin Ailey Dance Studios in New York City under the guidance of Finis Jhung and early childhood dance educator, Beverly Spell. She studied advanced technique classes in Summer 2012 at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet Teacher Workshop this summer in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Jessica Browning (instructor) brings 25 years of dancing experience to Wise Dance Center as a teacher and choreographer. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Pedagogy from the University of Oklahoma in 2005. She has also attended teacher workshops in New York City with Finus Jhung at the Alvin Ailey Studios and attended along with Karen, the workshops at Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Jessica also teaches ballroom dancing at Weatherford College.
