  midwife recs Hey Reddit, longtime user posting under burner. So I've discovered this morning that I'm pregnant (no Laneway for me today, lol). I'm very early along - as in my period wasn't even due for another few days - and this is VERY unplanned, although not unwelcome, news for my partner and I. I have an appointment with my GP tomorrow but as this is all very new to me I was wondering if anybody had recommendations for a midwife? We're in the grey lynn/ponsonby area. Also any other pregnancy advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

  Try https://www.findyourmidwife.co.nz With bubs number 1 it was whoever I could get because I was due just after new years and lots of midwives don't take patients. She was lovely though but unfortunately is no longer taking on patirnts due to ill health. This time around I just went for someone close to where we live to make it easy to get to appointments. Most midwives are awesome, and many work in teams so they get time off. Be aware that appointments can often be cancelled or held up as they might be attending someone else's birth!

  Just FYI you no longer need to be confirmed by Dr. You can just jump on find your midwife and start calling. Can join some mummy pages like the parenting view or the perplexed parent and someone there will have recommendations. Congratulations! It's a very exciting time ahead although certainly not without its challenges. Be prepared to experience all the stuff no one tells you about! I'd recommend jumping onto the oh baby or treasures forums and finding some otheradies for a due group. I am in due groups on Facebook for both my boys (3 y & 6 m) and the wealth of information from them have Been invaluable!

I need a midwife who will help me with breastfeeding as daughter didn't latch well and was formula fed. Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm a breast cancer survivor and have already made the decision not to breastfeed for several reasons.   Head to Find Your Midwife webpage, NZ site. It lists midwives by regions, each midwife tells you abit about herself and you can see if they are available when you're due. Remember it is perfectly normal to 'interview' several midwives to find one that you are comfortable with and has a similar philosophy (beliefs) as you. Perhaps google 'questions to ask your midwife 'for ideas on what to ask. Recommendations are great, but remember what you want in a midwife may be different to your friends whats, its a very personal thing. Good luck for the future, enjoy this special time for you and your family.

  Congratulations! I second findyourmidwife.co.nz, I haven't heard of midwives making first contact in nz, you generally find your own. Have a look at who's available and read there profiles. Give the ones that stand out a call and go from there! You can also join a private forum on oh baby, with other mums who are due around the same time and I'm sure they will be happy to help you out too

  My midwife was Kelly from Rata Midwives, so, so amazing. I would also recommend Claire, who was the second midwife at my home birth. I used find your midwife and read through the briefs for each one available, called Kelly because she sounded like a pe rfect fit for me, arranged an initial consultation and never looked back smile emoticon You may not go with the first midwife you meet and that's totally fine! Just trust your instincts and go with your gut feeling. I second reading Ina May Gaskin, I had a fantastic, fear-free birth and thank reading Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and Kelly's expert care for this. Good luck! (And congratulations!)

  Rebecca Ritchie from Meeanee Midwives was great - I hadnt had a baby in over 11 years!! We did ante natel classes at the health centre mainly as it was my partners first child so more for him but I personally didnt get much out of it. This site also is handy http://www.findyourmidwife.co.nz/
