Guys, you all bring up pretty valid points. And there's something you can do about it! I know it's a little different at Old Bank District because our retail spaces are not live/work like they are at SB Tower but we (the management company) do take care to make sure that our retail & residents are safe by employing a security guard from dusk til dawn. On top of that, we have a patrol car come by several times a night and a guard on bike rolling thru several times a night. We're also pretty tight with the Green Shirts (Green Shirts are part of Historic Downtown BID - you can reach them by calling 213-239-8336; the Purple Shirts belong to Downtown Center BID and they do not patrol the Historic Core). You can talk to your landlord about getting security - Old Bank District, The Rowan, The El Dorado and PE Lofts all use Chase Protective Services which is useful in case one of the properties needs backup. You can also call LAPD Central Division, which covers our area, and ask who the Senior Lead Officer for the area is. You can get the phone number & email for your SLO and then voice your concerns. As you know, there's strength in numbers and since the local business owners have formed or are part of the Historic Downtown Merchants Association (HDMA), that's a good vehicle to get your voices heard. You also have the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council (DLANC) at your disposal and can speak with them about your safety concerns. The other thing you can do is ban together and talk to the local businesses that are causing disruptions and ask that they take care to make sure that their patrons disperse and actually LEAVE the area after closing time. I believe that awareness is key and the more voices that speak about the issues together to the proper authorities, the more that gets done. LAPD + Green Shirts are awesome services for the community and I believe that if they are aware of problem areas, they will work with the locals to help these areas. Good luck!
