If people have stuff that doesn't fit them or they want to very rid of they post to that respective sports' elist or friends/acquaintances. Otherwise, they're is the armourarchive.org but you have to know what you need (metal thickness, variety, etc) or can ask.

Old computer cases, and appliance shells (washer and dryers, dish washers, and fridges) are usually pretty good steel and are about 18 g if I remember correctly. If you want patterns and online resources check out www.armourarchive.org they have great patterns, armoring articles, and online resources for rivets and the like. They can be a bit snobish especially to the LARP people as they are trying for period pieces. It is a good resource though.

There was one place with a really beautiful buckler, but they were in australia and shipping would be enough to push their price out of range for me. Does any one have any North American (or better still Canadian) suggestions? Not off the top of my head. Have you thought to ask any armorers what it would cost to make one?
